Trapped in the System — Cover Illustration for The Globe and Mail
This illustration accompanied an investigative feature examining employee misclassification in Canada's trucking industry. The story explores how some companies classify drivers as self-employed contractors, allowing them to avoid payroll contributions and labour protections while shifting risk onto workers.
To visualize the bureaucratic and psychological pressure at the center of the issue, I created an image of a truck driver trapped within a swirling vortex of paperwork. Contracts, forms, and administrative systems become an overwhelming force, reflecting how workers can feel isolated and powerless within a complex system designed to control rather than protect them.
